Requirements for Graduation

To be awarded an Undergraduate degree from the University of Mount Olive, a student must:

  • Be in good standing at the University

  • Must complete at least 126 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on all studies at the University of Mount Olive with no grade lower than C on required major courses.

  • Complete minimum residence-hour requirements: 18 semester hours in residence for an Associate degree - 32 semester hours in residence, of which at least 18 semester hours must be in the major for the Baccalaureate degree

  • Fulfill all University and Departmental assessment requirements

  • Fulfill all financial obligations to the University

To be awarded a Graduate degree from the University of Mount Olive, a student must:

  • Be in good standing at the University

  • Complete all courses, including all academic requirements prior to graduation 

  • Must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 on all studies at the University of Mount Olive with no grade below C

  • Complete minimum residence of 24 semester hours 

  • Fulfill all financial obligations to the University

  • Note: Graduation requirements may vary for each specific graduate program. Requirements are currently housed within each Academic School, i.e., School of Arts and Sciences and Tillman School of Business.

     

How do I know if I am on track for graduation?

You may make an appointment with your advisor at your University of Mount Olive location, and they will check your progress toward graduation.

When should I file for graduation?

File with the Registrar an application for graduation by March 1st for the May Commencement, July 1st for the August Commencement, and October 1st for the December Commencement, and pay to the Business Office a nonrefundable graduation fee.

  • Students from the Adult & Graduate Program should contact their One-Stop Advisor to ensure that all graduation requirements will be met.
  • Students from the Traditional Program should see their Academic Advisor to ensure that all graduation requirements will be met.

Note: Applications received after the above deadlines will require a $50.00 late fee due with the application. Any extended application deadlines will be notated on the graduation applications.

Schedule of Events


Graduating Class of 2020 (August Candidates and May Graduates),

The August commencement ceremony scheduled for August 29, 2020 at the University of Mount Olive will now be a "Virtual" ceremony to ensure the safety of our students and their families, as well as our staff and faculty due to COVID-19. The event will include both the August and May Graduates and will be posted online on September 26, 2020. Please continue to monitor the Graduation Web page https://myumo.moc.edu/academic/registrar/Graduation/Pages/default.aspx. for more information concerning the Virtual Commencement. 

  • Diplomas: August Graduates - You should expect to receive your diploma in the mail within 4-8 weeks from the end of the summer semester if all academic and financial obligations are complete.
  • Regalia: Any questions or concerns about your regalia, please contact HerffJones Customer Service as 1-800-837-4235 or https://collegegrad.herffjones.com/site/schoolName/University%20of%20Mount%20Olive ).
  • Latin Honors – Undergraduates who have achieved Latin Honors will receive their cords by mail.
  • Hoods: Masters Graduates will receive their hoods by mail.
