Outside Scholarship Opportunities

Below is just a handful of the many outside scholarship opportunities available to college and university students. These scholarships are not institutional UMO scholarships. Rather, these scholarships are offered through private companies and organizations to help students just like you. This list is updated regularly as new outside scholarships are announced and discovered. Check back often to see the latest opportunities we have found. 

The Reedsy National Creative Writing Scholarship - $1000
(Deadlines: February 21, 2019 for Spring 2018 semester award or September 21, 2019 for Fall 2019 semester award)
Lulus Scholarship - $1000 (plus a $500 Lulus shopping spree)
(Deadline: March 1, 2019)

In order to participate in the scholarship contest, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently attending or planning to attend a college or university.
  • Must fill out the complete survey and provide your name, email, and the name of the institution you are attending or planning to attend.
  • Must complete the survey by the deadline 3/01/2019
  • A winner will be chosen on 3/18/2019

National HRT Scholarship - $1000 (3 awards)
​(Deadline: March 11, 2019)

To be considered for a National HRT scholarship you must meet the following requirements:
  • Must be students enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Plan to work in a health-related field
  • Demonstrate leadership in college or university
  • Anything else of interest that would set you apart from other applicants
  • Applicants should include their name, address, phone number, email and College/University name you’re currently attending

Each application must include: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Adress where you currently live (only State and City), College/University name, Email.


Essay – please write a short essay of between 500 and 1000 words on one of the topics below. Topics:

  1. Topic 1: Explain your views on the “positive and negative impact of social media on your health“. Include in this topic the link between social media and disease and how it affects your perceptions.
  2. OR
  3. Topic 2: “The role of hormones in modern life“. Include in this topic any commentary on aspects of aging and the influence of hormones, both positive and negative, on the aging process.

CHESTER Scholarship 2019--$2500
(Deadlines: April 30, 2019 and September 30, 2019)


The CHESTER Entrepreneur Scholarship was created to help students jumpstart their businesses while in school. CHESTER, a direct-to-consumer luggage brand believes in helping passionate, hardworking, and talented students achieve their dream of starting their own business.

Eligibility Requirements
Any current college student or incoming freshman enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. The student must be enrolled at an accredited college, university or trade school. No major or trade requirements. All students are welcome.

You must submit a 500-1,000 word essay on the below topic to by midnight of the scholarship deadline.
Game Development Scholarship -- $1000
(Deadline: May 15, 2019)

Eligibility and application details:

·   Any student currently pursuing or who have enrolled for an undergraduate degree in the following areas of study: Computer Engineering, Computer Science (B. Tech, M. Tech. B. Sc., M. Sc, or M.S.) or IT.

·   Student should be either a citizen or a permanent resident of USA or Canada

·   Student should be enrolled or planning to enroll with an accredited university/college for a full-time course in game development

·  Minimum GPA achieved should be 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

·  To apply for the game development scolarship program,you need to develop a game (android or iOS) that is innovative and send the details to

·   To enter, applicants are encouraged to send their submission to, along with their name, college/university, expected year of graduation, and intended major.
