Below is just a handful of the many outside scholarship opportunities available to college and university students. These scholarships are not institutional UMO scholarships. Rather, these scholarships are offered through private companies and organizations to help students just like you. This list is updated regularly as new outside scholarships are announced and discovered. Check back often to see the latest opportunities we have found. 

NC Community Foundation Disaster Relief & Resilience Scholarship 
(Deadline: April 30, 2019)

Eligible students are attending or planning to attend an institution of higher learning in the immediately following year and resided in areas impacted by Hurricanes Florence or Matthew. Applicants will be considered based on the severity of the impact of the disaster on their lives, their financial need, and how they have demonstrated resilience in overcoming obstacles related to the disaster. ESSAY PROMPT: Please describe how your life, including your educational path, has been impacted by either Hurricane Matthew or Hurricane Florence and the obstacles that you have overcome since the hurricane.

CHESTER Scholarship 2019--$2500
(Deadlines: April 30, 2019 and September 30, 2019)


The CHESTER Entrepreneur Scholarship was created to help students jumpstart their businesses while in school. CHESTER, a direct-to-consumer luggage brand believes in helping passionate, hardworking, and talented students achieve their dream of starting their own business.

Eligibility Requirements
Any current college student or incoming freshman enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. The student must be enrolled at an accredited college, university or trade school. No major or trade requirements. All students are welcome.

You must submit a 500-1,000 word essay on the below topic to by midnight of the scholarship deadline.
Game Development Scholarship -- $1000
(Deadline: May 15, 2019)

Eligibility and application details:

·   Any student currently pursuing or who have enrolled for an undergraduate degree in the following areas of study: Computer Engineering, Computer Science (B. Tech, M. Tech. B. Sc., M. Sc, or M.S.) or IT.

·   Student should be either a citizen or a permanent resident of USA or Canada

·   Student should be enrolled or planning to enroll with an accredited university/college for a full-time course in game development

·  Minimum GPA achieved should be 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

·  To apply for the game development scolarship program,you need to develop a game (android or iOS) that is innovative and send the details to

·   To enter, applicants are encouraged to send their submission to, along with their name, college/university, expected year of graduation, and intended major.

Mesothelioma Cancer Victims Memorial Scholarships - $2,500 for top video and $2,500 for top essay

Scholarship Requirements:
  • To qualify, all papers must be submitted by December 2nd, 2019*
  • Must be enrolled in a continuing education professional studies program.
  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of the United States.
  • Applicant must identify as a female and be over the age of 30.
  • The paper must fit the criteria of the topics outlined above.
  • Worthy, Inc. has the rights to the submitted content.
  • Submissions must be sent in from the valid email address of the author.

Mercer Mettl Scholarship for Emerging Leaders 2019 -- (3) $2000 awards
(Deadline: December 15, 2019)

To apply for the Mercer Mettl Scholarship For Emerging Leaders 2019, you must:

- Have a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent scale.
- Have proof of enrollment in a degree course from a recognized university or college.

Note: Students in their first year of enrollment are not eligible
